| Continually rising energy costs, and the environmental issues related to generation of power, have dictated a global energy conservation campaign. Aging infrastructures, when met with rising demands, have responded with rolling blackouts and regional shutdowns caused by overloads. The production of new electrical capacity requires burning fuels, which contribute to greenhouse gasses, or the construction of new dams. In developed nations, whether the decision is made voluntarily for global stewardship, or through compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, the responsibility to reduce the demand for energy touches us all. |
